Hip bruise, sometimes known as hip pointer, refers to the hip bone contusion. The hip bone is often known as the iliac crest.
Direct trauma is often the major cause. The following sport activities often have high risks: basketball, football, baseball, ice hockey, skateboarding, wrestling, boxing.
Hip contusion can damage the following structures: the soft tissues and the femur trochanter. The common symptoms include: palpation pain, bruising, swelling, thigh discomfort, moving difficulty. Ice packs or anti-inflammatory medication can be used to reduce the pain and swelling. If the injury is severe, the patient should seek medical help.
