Glenoid labrum is the shoulder's gristle - it helps to stabilize and strengthen the shoulder joint. Glenoid labrum connects to the shoulder joint capsule and ligaments, facilitating the shoulder joint's normal function.
Acute trauma or repetitive motions often cause the glenoid labrum injuries. The common risk factors include: excessive stretching, direct blows, sudden shoulder pull, overhead stretching, vehement throwing or weight-lifting.
The common symptoms include: shoulder discomfort, shoulder joint stiffness, grinding or rubbing pain. Physical therapy can often alleviate the symptoms. In some cases, arthroscopic surgery may be needed to fix the damaged tissues.
