Impingement syndrome, also called supraspinatus syndrome (or painful arc syndrome), is the following situation: the rotator cuff tendons or the bursa become inflamed, causing shoulder pain or weakness.
The most common symptoms include: shoulder discomfort, grinding sensation, shoulder movement pain, shoulder joint stiffness. The rotator cuff muscles are often affected.
The acromion and the humerus form a narrow space - when the rotator cuff tendons pass through this narrow space, rubbing or pinching often occurs, causing impingement syndrome. The following methods can help to reduce the pain and inflammation: resting, physiotherapy, massage, therapeutic injections, arthroscopic surgery.
