Facet Joint Pain

Facet Joint Pain

Facet joints (zygapophysial structures) can help the vertebras connect to each other, supporting the spine's movement. If the facet joints become stiff or inflamed, they often cause spinal pain.

Facet joint pain is often due to facet joint compression. Prolonged standing, running, jumping or improper sleeping posture can cause facet joint compression. The aging process also lead to facet joint compression. The common symptoms may include: facet joint discomfort, lower back pain, leaning or bending difficulty.

Proper body posture can help to maintain a normal spinal curvature - this can reduce facet joint compression. Ice therapy or anti-inflammatory medication may reduce inflammation.
